This Video Shows What It Would Be Like to Get Eaten by a Shark

We all have those bucket-list dreams of things we’d love to experience in our lifetime. On the flip side, we also have a mental list of things we hope we never have to deal with. For a lot of us, being eaten by a shark probably sits pretty high on that “nope” list—or at least, it’s probably moved up a few spots just reading this!

Luckily, we can see exactly what that terrifying experience would look like without actually becoming shark food ourselves.

ABC News recently got their hands on some jaw-dropping footage captured by a group of divers who were feeding sharks in the Bahamas. In the middle of the frenzy, a tiger shark went off-script and decided the camera looked like a tasty snack.

The footage they managed to record is unreal—it shows the shark’s massive jaws and rows of teeth clamping down on the camera, giving us a crystal-clear view of what it’s like to be on the menu. The tiger shark chomped down a few times before swallowing the camera whole. But the camera kept rolling, capturing every second from the moment it was devoured to when it was spat back out again.

It’s both fascinating and terrifying—like getting a front-row seat to what it would be like to become fish food. Fortunately, after the shark was done playing with its new toy, the diver was able to recover the camera and share the footage with the world.

According to the Florida Museum of Natural History’s International Shark Attack File, there were 88 shark attacks worldwide in 2024, and 47 of those were unprovoked—meaning the humans weren’t doing anything to provoke the shark, just swimming in its territory. Despite how often shark attacks make headlines, they’re actually pretty rare. In fact, only 28 unprovoked attacks happened in the U.S. last year.

Of course, nothing grabs attention like a shark attack—or, even better for the headlines, a human who does something mind-bogglingly dumb and ends up on the wrong end of nature. Case in point: one of the most recent shark attacks involved a woman who decided to take a selfie with a shark. The shark responded by biting off both of her hands. Brilliant move!
